From June 6th to 8th, this outdoor art festival brings the town’s natural charm and historic character to life on canvas. Hosted in the scenic heart of California’s Gold Country, the event invites painters from across the region and beyond to capture Mariposa’s landscapes, architecture, and small-town spirit in real time and open air.
Whether you're an art lover, a collector, or simply curious, the Mariposa Paint Out offers a rich and engaging experience for all ages and backgrounds.
Brushes in Motion: Art Comes Alive in Mariposa
During the Mariposa Paint Out, you'll see easels pop up across the town and surrounding countryside as artists interpret everything from golden hills and rustic barns to downtown storefronts and quiet creekside views. Throughout the weekend, visitors can stroll through Mariposa’s historic streets, local parks, and nearby scenic overlooks to watch artists in action. Engage with them as they work, ask questions, and see the creative process unfold brushstroke by brushstroke.
As part of this year’s Mariposa Paint Out, there will also be four inspiring workshops led by our award-winning local artist judges: Christine Obers, Penny Otwell, Danjie Wei, and Veronica Gross. These workshops are open to everyone of all ages and skill levels — whether or not you’re participating in the Paint Out competition.
